Home Tanning Beds – What Type To Choose
There are many brands of home tanning beds available and it can be a bit daunting to choose especially if you are unfamiliar with tanning. Some more experienced tanning bed users may already have brand or feature preferences based on some of the commercial tanning beds they have used.
When it comes to choosing a home tanning bed there are two basic styles. Which one you choose will come down to personal preference and the amount of space available.
Stand Up Tanning Beds
If space is an issue stand up home tanning beds are your best choice. If you live in an apartment or condo they may be your only choice.
Some people do not tan well in standard tanning beds when laying down due to pressure points. Also striping can develop because of limited movement in a traditional tanning bed.
Stand up home tanning beds are a good choice for those who feel claustrophobic in regular tanning beds. They offer freedom of movement which results in a much more even tan. Think of it as taking a sun shower. Light goes everywhere and you tan in less time.
Advantages of the stand up tanning bed:
- Use less space
- Get a more even tan
- No striping
- Tan Faster
- Freedom of movement
Traditional Tanning Beds
Some people do not like the idea of standing to tan. For some it is because they want to feel relaxed while tanning. For others it is for physical reasons.
If you have trouble standing because of back problems or other physical problems then a home tanning bed that allows you to lay down is obviously your best choice.
Installing Home Tanning Beds
Many home tanning beds use a standard 120 volt outlet but some will require 220 volts. Make sure you know the voltage your unit runs on.
If you live in an apartment chances are the only 220 volt outlet you have is behind your range. So unless tanning in your kitchen is an option, it is best to select a home tanning bed that runs on standard 120 volt household current.
Even many home owners will have to provide a run of 220 volt wiring to the area that their home tanning bed will be located and install a special 220 volt outlet.
For ease of installation it is best to select a home tanning bed that runs on 120 volts. But with some models you may need to buy a an extra piece of equipment called a “buck booster” to keep voltage constant. Not all home tanning beds require this so find out before you buy because this will cost you extra.
